Mariko MIYASHITA

日本画家 NIHONGA PAINTER

Mariko Miyashita graduated from the Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts, where she specialized in the conservation and restoration of Nihonga and traditional Japanese paper. For her doctoral project, she received the Nomura Art Prize. Since 2002, she has continuously exhibited at the Japan Art Institute Exhibition (Inten), presenting works themed on landscapes, flowers, and birds at exhibitions across Japan and internationally.

In addition to her artistic practice, she has engaged in research and teaching on cultural property conservation and Nihonga techniques, serving as a part-time lecturer at both Tokyo University of the Arts and Tamagawa University. She has also designed patterns for Chikusen, a long-established yukata-dyeing house founded in 1842, actively contributing to the preservation of traditional Japanese techniques and their reinterpretation in contemporary contexts. In 2023, she was nominated as a Tokutai member of the Japan Art Institute. She currently serves as a council member of the Japan Racing Association (JRA).
